The Escape
Game Dev Project
Project: Design a game from a simple brief in a short span of time
This project served as our mock synoptic project at college. We were tasked with creating a game from a short game - jam style brief. We have been given two months to create this game, shown below are some of the assets I have created for the game so far.
Challenges:
-
Creating a unique and intimidating enemy design
-
Understanding and being able to replicate the movement of a spider for the enemy's walk cycle.
Level Design
The Antivirus

Solid View
Shown here is the main enemy in our game, which we are calling the Antivirus. In terms of design we wanted to reflect both that it is frightening, and that the player, being in a firewall, is trapped in its web.
Final Model/Rendered View
Here is the finished model with all of the textures and materials applied. I decided to give the model the same worn-edge look as most other assets in the game. Save for the body, to which I gave a simple fur texture I created using Adobe Photoshop.

Final Render
I decided to render out an image showcasing the model's more terrifying aspects. I increased the emissive intensity on the eyes to create this glow highlighting enough of the rest of the model to give the viewer a sense of unease. This will likely not be used in the actual game, however just as a showcase of this model.
RAM

Solid View
This asset will be used in game as a collectable. For the collectable object we went through several different design ideas. However, we settled on a stick of RAM as it would fit very well with our theme and artstyle for our game.
Rendered View
When texturing, for elements such as the chips I used similar material nodes used on other assets in the game to give it the same worn edge look. For the sticker, I used the sticker off of the image I was using as a reference, to save the time of drawing up my own sticker. Finally, I drew the green circuit texture, taking inspiration from the same reference image I took the sticker from. I decided to not add every detail on the circuit board to keep with the more stylised look shared throughout the game.
